Kerstin Bruchhäuser
INFORMATION
Kerstin Bruchhäuser combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design. Her work is characterized by a clear formal language and a deep exploration of materials and techniques. She creates objects that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Kerstin Bruchhäuser (*1974) lives and works in Hamburg. She studied illustration and communication design at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences from 1999 to 2005 and completed her doctorate in art and design at the Bauhaus University Weimar in 2016. Her dissertation dealt with the topic of “Text on used textiles in contemporary art” and her works include textile installations, furniture and design objects that often integrate traditional techniques such as the Korean pojagi patchwork technique. One example of this is her reinterpretation of Marcel Breuer’s Bauhaus chair D4, in which she designed the strap covering using the pojagi technique.
